2015 Mock Draft Recap

I had the 12th pick in a snake draft with standard scoring in an ESPN roto league. I think my team turned out meh.

Team Strengths: I think I have a good mix of power hitters and a strong pitching staff.
Team Weaknesses: I’m weak on SBs, I drafted closers terribly, and I’m relying heavily on a bunch of bounce back players to carry my team, specifically Cargo/Fielder/Zimmerman. Wow my MI is weak and I waited way too long on a 5th OF. I usually love cycling my 5th OF or UTL player with whoever’s hot throughout the year, but I waited way too long on both.

It’s pretty easy to explain my picks cause they’re all back to back, here are some screenshots of the full draft. If I learned anything it’s that I shouldn’t have waited on players I really wanted, especially late in the draft. I wish I reached on deGrom/McHugh/Segura/Hunter.

What to do with the Zimmermen(n)

Ryan-Zimmerman-GlovesI was never a fan of Ryan Zimmerman going into the year and have him on none of my teams, but that doesn’t mean I can’t help the dumbos who drafted him. He went and got himself injured early in the year, but now he’s coming back tonight and apparently at a different position. I kind of like how the Nationals are trying out Ryan in LF, but then again they’re sort of delaying the inevitable when Harper returns, but I guess this team will do anything to keep Ryan out of hot corner defensively. If the Nationals are serious, I think Ryan should get enough playing time to get OF eligibility, where he only needs 5 starts on Yahoo! and 10 starts on ESPN. What I’m more worried about is that maybe they’re doing this because Harper’s injury could be more serious than what they’ve let on. In 2013 Ryan got a majority of his useful stats during the last month of the season, where he had 11 HRs, so he gets his power numbers in bunches and could go on a similar tear again. I would try to sell Ryan as soon as he’s accrued any value, but every leagues different and it may be better just to hold onto him. Why did you draft this guy!

Why you regretted drafting Ryan Zimmerman in 2014

Because you didn’t draft him last year so you don’t know how much he’ll hurt you…emotionally. Because you wanted to drop him all year but he’s a top 10 3rd baseman right?!, that’s like against the rules or something. Because he’s only hit over 30 homeruns once in his career. Because he struck out 108 times against right handed pitchers last year. That’s 3 times more than he walked against them. Because he hasn’t played a full season since 2006. Because he magically gets credited with a handful of stolen bases at the end of the year when you KNOW he’s never stolen a base in your line up. Because he had 15 homeruns before the month of September in 2013 and 11 during. No his power outage in the last month does not mean he improved, IT’S A TRAP to fool you into drafting him. Because there can only be one good Zimmerman(n) in Washington. Because Washington sports teams always find a way to disappoint. Because…just look at him, does he look like a star? No.
